Boris A. Hadaschik, MD, is Director and Chair of the Department of Urology, Essen University Hospital, University of Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany and Vice Director of the West German Cancer Center Consortium. He attained his medical degree in 2002 at the University of Heidelberg, School of Medicine, Germany. This was in parallel with obtaining a Master of Music degree from the University of Music, Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1998. In 2003, he began his residency in Heidelberg and Mainz, Germany. In 2006, he was awarded a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship from the German Research Association at the Vancouver Prostate Centre in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Following that, he completed his residency at the University of Heidelberg and became board-certified in urology in 2009. In 2010 and 2012, he became board-certified in medical tumour therapy and andrology, respectively.
Professor Hadaschik’s main research interests lie in the development of prostate cancer diagnostics (such as image-guided biopsy and PSMA PET imaging) and therapy (including molecularly targeted radiopharmaceuticals) to improve and individualise cancer care and patient outcomes. He is a member of several international working groups and he has been a principal investigator of the German multicentre PROBASE trial for prospective randomised evaluation of risk-adapted prostate-specific antigen screening.
Professor Hadaschik has won numerous awards including the
German Urological Association’s highest scientific award, the Maximilian Nitze
Prize. He has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed articles and currently has
an h-index of 52.
