Gunhild von Amsberg is Professor of Uro-Oncology at the Martini Clinic, Hamburg, Germany and Senior Physician at the Center for Oncology, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany. She earned her medical degree at the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany, and at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, USA, in 2002, before completing her PhD in 2003. Prof. von Amsberg subsequently completed postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Nobel Prize winner Prof. A.V. Schally at the Endocrine, Polypeptide and Cancer Institute, in New Orleans, LA, USA, before undertaking specialist training in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. She is head of the Laboratory for Experimental Oncology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.
Prof. von Amsberg’s clinical and research focus is on systemic therapy for advanced prostate cancer, urothelial and renal cell carcinoma, and using innovative treatment concepts such as clinical trials and personalized therapies in clinical practice. She focuses on translational and basic research to develop novel treatment concepts to overcome resistance of currently available standard therapies in advanced prostate cancer. She is a member of the German S3 Guideline Commissions for Prostate, Penile and Urothelial Carcinoma.
Prof. von Amsberg has received several scholarships including the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship for one academic year at Tulane University and postdoctoral scholarships from the DAAD and the University of Würzburg, Würzburg, Germany, as well as a number of awards. She has numerous scientific publications and book contributions to her name and is a reviewer for national and international scientific journals.
