Lawrence Drudge-Coates is a consultant nurse in urological oncology at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London, UK, and a visiting professor at the First Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China. He qualified in 1994 and has been involved both clinically and strategically in urological oncology ever since. As part of the UK cancer services development programmes, Mr Drudge-Coates was both Project and Programme Manager in delivering the NHS Cancer Plan Targets via service improvement and modernisation, in line with local and national priorities,through the Cancer Services collaborative programme.
Mr Drudge-Coates currently works as an autonomous nurse practitioner in the management of patients with prostate cancer, from initial referral to end of life. In particular, he has conducted specialist research and has clinical interests in bone metastases, and he has published numerous recent articles on bone health in cancer. He also has an academic teaching role in urology and has been involved in a number of educational and research programmes for urology nurses. In 2018, he was appointed Director of Training to the Chinese and European Collaborative Training Institute for urology nursing. Mr Drudge-Coates is Past President and current Chair of the Prostate Cancer Special Interest Group of the European Association of Urology Nurses and Chair of the Nurse Steering Committee of the Skeletal Care Academy. He is also a steering committee member of the Central European Cooperative Oncology Group and an editorial board member of the Prostate Cancer Forum and Journal of Nursing Education and Practice.
